Registration

  • We are not a group that performs musical selections. In fact, we actually build our concerts and we begin the process by choosing a story that will serve as the foundation.

Over the next months, our director researches and writes the story while weaving in songs and photographs that will support the telling. Members of the group are invited to participate in the building by sharing ideas, exploring song arrangements, and creating/engaging in choreography that will also support the telling.

A few more months are spent putting on the finishing touches and when all is built and ready, we invite the larger community to come and experience the story.

Working toward our next performance, in this session we will continue to build a simulated live radio broadcast called “Alberta Afternoon.” This show will include song, dance, commercials and skits. Reading music, dance, acting and/or previous experience is not required - only a willingness to explore the possibilities!

Registration is closed

Perfectly Imperfects: Working toward our performances of "Alberta Afternoon" in April, this session we will be dedicated to rehearsing and placing the final touches on our simulated live radio broadcast.  Because we have already been working on this show for a year, new participants are welcome but must be willing to do the necessary practice to be fully prepared for the performance dates on April 4th and 5th.

Notes from the instructor:

What equipment is required by the student to bring to class?

  • Binder, pencil, and eraser. Props may be required depending on what we are working on.

What equipment will the instructor provide the students?

  • Varies

What clothing is required?

  • Comfortable clothing for classes, specifics related to performances will be determined.

What level of competency should the student be at to attend this course?

  • A willingness to explore the possibilities.

Is this course available for drop-ins?

    • Because a certain level of commitment is required to perform, participants are welcome to drop in for a maximum of three classes before making a commitment to be in the class.

Is there anything else you would like the students to know about your class?

    • We are not a choir and we do not use sheet music. Practice is required.

    • We lean more to the musical theatre genre and our performances take several sessions to come to completion.

    • To sing is to risk. To sing is to allow oneself to be vulnerable. Therefore, it is essential that a warm, safe and supportive container be created in which to learn and grow. This is the responsibility of each person in the class.

    • As in any group, issues do and will come up that need to be addressed:

      • Each participant is considered an equal and essential member of the class. Each is encouraged not to compare themselves to others, but to embrace where they currently are, set goals and with support, work toward those goals.

      • There is no tolerance for bullying or gossip. When concerns arise, participants are to come directly to the instructor who will:

        • Ask each participant to explore how their own behavior may impact the other, to be willing to listen to the other, and to take responsibility for their part.

        • Ask the participants to work out issues face to face with each other in a respectful manner.

        • Provide support/mediate conversations when required.
