Who is Confederation Park? What's its role?
Confederation Park 55+ Activity Centre has played a vital role in the lives of seniors since it was established in 1973 to enhance the lives of older adults in Calgary’s northwest. Today, over 740 members from around the city connect with each other through ongoing educational, recreational and social services programs.
The Centre provides a vibrant and stimulating atmosphere for maintaining and enhancing the mental and physical well-being of Calgary’s growing senior population. Members enjoy a variety of dance, music, art, technology and exercise classes and clubs taught by some of the top instructors in the city. The Centre also hosts a weekly Tea & Conversation program designed to assist over 500 isolated seniors every month.
Confederation Park 55+ Activity Centre is a volunteer-driven, non-profit organization working to help seniors reap the benefits of an active lifestyle. We have a track record for providing an array of high quality music, art, dance, and fitness classes geared specifically to the interests of older people.
Confederation Park is the second largest seniors centre in the city of Calgary. More than 600 older adults stay active through participating in 35 classes per week in activities like music, dancing, art and card playing. The classes give seniors a chance to accomplish a task or learn something new.
We’re serious about promoting a fun and lively atmosphere because we take the health and well-being of seniors seriously. We respond to the needs of older adults by connecting them with opportunities for social interaction, education, and volunteerism through clubs, classes and activities. Everything we do is designed to promote mental and physical well-being – and to have fun while we’re doing it.
The Centre is housed in a building overlooking beautiful Confederation Park, a crescent shaped park of more than 160 hectares. The public can stroll along a stream in the manicured recreational park, throughout the park are mature deciduous and coniferous trees. The trees, shrubs and aquatic vegetation provide habitat for a considerable variety of birds and other wildlife.
